John Edward Woodward

John Edward Woodward was born in Wheelers End, Buckinghamshire, on 17 April 1931 and educated at the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe. After service in the RAF he played his club rugby for Wasps. A powerful wing, he won the first of his 15 caps for England against South Africa in 1952. Three weeks later he played for the Barbarians against the Springboks. In 1957 Ted Woodward went with the Barbarians on their pioneering tour to Canada. He captained the side against British Columbia before injury curtailed his tour.
