Benjamin Gordon Malison Wood

Benjamin Gordon Malison Wood was born in Limerick on 20 June 1931 and educated at Crescent College before working as an insurance inspector. He played club rugby for Garryowen in Limerick and Lansdowne in Dublin. Between 1954 and 1961 he gained 29 caps at prop for Ireland. On the 1959 British Isles tour of Australasia and Canada he made 15 appearances, including two test matches. In 1961 he formed an all-Irish front row with A.R.Dawson and S.Millar in the Barbarians' team that beat South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park. Gordon Wood was the father of K.G.M.Wood [q.v.].He died on 18 May 1982, aged 50.
