Andrew Wemyss
Andrew Wemyss, known as Jock, was born in Edinburgh on 22 May 1893. He played for Haddington and Gala before World War One and for Edinburgh Wanderers after it. He also played one game for Leicester in 1925/26. A versatile forward who played international rugby at both prop and wing-forward he won two caps for Scotland in 1914. Six years later, and despite losing the sight of one eye on military service, he played another five times for his country. He also made five appearances for the Barbarians and in 1925 captained the Club against Cardiff. Later that year he joined the committee. Originally a banker, he later became a journalist for the Scottish Daily and Sunday Express newspapers. The latter necessitated him standing down fom the committee but he remained closely associated with the Club as its record keeper. In 1955 he updated the official history as editor of the book, 'The Barbarians'. He was also a successful radio broadcaster. Jock Wemyss died on 21 January 1974, aged 80.
