Gordon Thomas Wells

Gordon Thomas Wells was born in Porth, Rhondda, on 25 October 1928 and educated at Porth County School, Cardiff University and St Luke's College,Exeter. As a student he was a triple-jump record holder. Apart from a short spell with Neath, he played most of his club rugby for Cardiff, scoring 119 tries in 254 games between 1952 and 1962; he was Cardiff captain in 1959/60. His seven games for Wales (1955-1958) included four games at centre and three on the wing. A regular member of Barbarian teams, he toured Canada in 1957 and Australia a year later, played at centre against Australia in 1958, and scored nine tries in 14 appearances. Gordon Wells died in April 1995, aged 66.
