Michael John Watkins

Michael John Watkins was born in Abercarn on 9 January 1952 and educated at Cwmcarn School. He worked in the family haulage business and as an engineer and after his playing days was team manager at two Welsh clubs, Pontypridd and Cross Keys. Mike Watkins played at hooker for Cardiff, Newbridge and Newport, captaining the latter between 1983 and 1987. He also had the unique distinction in captaining Wales in his four internationals in 1984.
