Samuel Walker
Samuel Walker was born in Belfast on 21 April 1912 and educated at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. He played at prop, hooker and lock for Instonians. He worked originally in banking and after he retired from playing became a distinguished commentator for BBC radio. Between 1934 and 1938 he played in 15 internationals for Ireland and was captain against Wales in 1938. Later that year he captained the British Isles in South Africa and played in 20 matches, including three tests. In 1940 he played for the British Army against the French Army. Sam Walker died on 27 January 1972, aged 59.
