Robin Henderson Thompson

Robin Henderson Thompson was born in Belfast on 5 May 1931 and educated at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution amd Queen's University, Belfast. He worked as an industrial chemist and played at lock and No 8 for Instonians. Between 1951 and 1956 he played in 11 internationals for Ireland and was captain in three matches in 1955. Later that year he led the British Isles on their tour of South Africa and played in 15 matches, including three tests. His seven games for the Barbarians included the captaincy against Cardiff, Swansea and Leicester. In 1956 he joined Warrington rugby league club. Robin Thompson died on 13 August 2003 aged 72.
