William Delme Thomas

William Delme Thomas was born in Bancyfelin, Carmarthenshire, on 12 September 1942 and educated at St Clears School. A fine lineout forward and lock, he was selected for the first of three British Isles tours - to Australasia and Canada - in 1966 before he gained the first of his 25 caps for Wales. He subsequently toured again as a Lion to South Africa in 1968 and Australia and New Zealand in 1971. Over the course of the three tours he made 44 appearances, including seven tests, and was also used as a prop forward in the tests of 1966 and 1968. He captained Llanelli to victory against the All Blacks in 1972 and was also captain of Wales against the same New Zealand side a month later. Delme Thomas worked as an electricity linesman.
