Alan Robert Francis Thomas

Alan Robert Francis Thomas was born in Beckenham on 16 April 1940 and educated at Pontlottyn School and Bargoed Technical College. He worked as an electronics manager and played at wing-forward for several Monmouthshire clubs - Tredegar, Pontypool, Newport, Cross Keys and Ebbw Vale - and also Neath. In 1960 he played for the combined Pontypool & Cross Keys XV against South Africa. At Newport he played over 200 games for the club, including the victory over New Zealand in 1963 and the drawn match with Australia in 1966. Alan Thomas played twice for Wales - against New Zealand in December 1963 and England the following month.
