William Ewart Tamplin

William Ewart Tamplin was born in Risca, Monmouthshire, on 10 May 1917. As well as playing for Pontypool and Newport, he was captain of Cardiff in 1950/51. A goalkicking lock, he scored 883 points in 252 games for the Arms Park club. Having played in five Services' internationals during World War II, he gained seven full caps in 1947 and 1948 and captained Wales against Australia before playing for the Barbarians against the Wallabies. Bill Tamplin was a policeman and cousin of Bleddyn Williams [q.v.].He died on 20 October 1989, aged 72.
