Robert Victor Stirling

Robert Victor Stirling was born in Lichfield on 4 September 1919. A career serviceman who played for the RAF., he rose to become a Wing-Commander and also played for Leicester and Wasps. He won 18 caps at prop for England between 1951 and 1954 and was captain in the five internationals of 1953-54. He also captained the Barbarians against Swansea in 1954 and was in the Barbarians' team for the first-ever game against South Africa in 1952. Bob Stirling died on 15 January 1991, aged 71.
