Michael (Roland) Steele-Bodger

Michael Roland Steele-Bodger was born on 4 September 1925. He was educated at Rugby School and the universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh. He played for Cambridge in the Varsity matches of 1945 and 1946, the latter as captain. A dynamic wing-forward, he played for England in three Victory internationals in 1946 before winning the first of nine consecutive full caps the following year. A member of the Harlequins and Moseley clubs, his 13 appearances for the Barbarians included the pioneering fixture against Australia in 1948 when he scored the opening try in a 9-6 victory. He has also been on the committee since 1946 and became president in 1988.
