Robert Clive Shell

Robert Clive Shell was born in Pyle, Glamorgan, on 9 September 1947. He played at scrum-half for Pyle and London Welsh before joining Aberavon where he was club captain for three seasons from 1976. His representative matches included the combined Neath & Aberavon XV v New Zealand in 1973 and the West Wales XV against the All Blacks five years later. He twice toured overseas with Wales - to Canada in 1973 and Japan in 1975. He gained one full cap as an injury-time replacement against Australia in 1973. He was also in the starting XV for Wales in two 'non-cap' internationals in Cardiff against Japan in 1973 and Tonga in 1974. Clive Shell was a school teacher and also coached Pyle RFC. He died in January 2012 at the age of 64.
