Richard Adrian William Sharp

Richard Adrian William Sharp was born in India on 9 September 1938 and educated at Blundell's School and Oxford University where he won three Blues between 1958 and 1961. He served in the Royal Marines and played at fly-half for Redruth, Wasps and Bristol. In January 1960 he made a famous international debut as an eleventh-hour selection against Wales and went on to gain 14 caps spread over seven years. In 1962 he toured South Africa with the British Isles, playing in 11 games, including two tests, and scoring 55 points. He was a member of the Barbarians' teams that played South Africa in 1961, Canada (1962) and New Zealand (1964). Richard Sharp was originally a schoolteacher and later became rugby correspondent for the 'Sunday Telegraph'.
