Derek Prior Rogers
Derek Prior, known as Budge, Rogers was born in Bedford on 20 June 1939 and educated at Bedford School and the City University before working as a management consultant. Playing at wing-forward for Bedford and England he gained 34 caps between 1961 and 1969 and was captain in seven internationals. He later became president of the Rugby Football Union. On tour with the British Isles in South Africa in 1962 he played in 12 games, including two test matches. His 25 appearances for the Barbarians places him joint-second with C. R. Jacobs [q.v.]in the all-time list; only A. J. F. O'Reilly with 30 has played more times for the Club. Budge Rogers also captained the Barbarians on five occasions - Cardiff in 1965, 1966 and 1968, Newport in 1964, and Natal on the 1969 tour of South Africa. He served on the committee in two spells between 1972 and 1981.
