Russell John Robins

Russell John Robins was born in Pontypridd on 21 February 1932 and educated at Pontypridd Grammar School. He played in six matches for Wales Secondary Schools in 1949 and as captain in 1950. He did National Service in the Army and played in the Inter-Services' tournament in 1953. He captained the Pontypridd club from 1953 to 1956. Between 1953 and 1957 he gained 13 caps for Wales at No 8, lock and wing-forward. In 1955 Russell Robins made the most appearances for the British Isles on their tour of South Africa, playing in 17 matches including the four tests. He worked for the National Coal Board and as a lecturer in the Army. In February 1959 he joined Leeds Rugby Leagie club.
