David Stuart Richards

David Stuart Richards was born in Cwmgwrach on 23 May 1954 and educated at Neath Grammar School and Cardiff College of Education where he qualified as a teacher. He later worked for a finance company. He played club rugby at centre and fly-half for Swansea where he was captain for two seasons, 1981/82 and 1983/84. He later became a Welsh selector. David Richards gained 17 caps for Wales between 1979 and 1983, 16 at centre and one on the wing, and scored four tries. In 1980 he toured with the British Isles to South Africa, playing in seven games, including the first test at centre, before injury curtailed his tour. In 1977 he played at fly-half for the Barbarians against the British Isles and captained the Barbarians in two matches - against Cornwall in 1983 and Penarth in 1984.
