Huw Rees

Huw Rees was born in Swansea on 6 April 1959 and educated at Maes-y-Dderwen School, Ystradgynlais. He played for Welsh Secondary Schools and captained Wales Youth. He made his senior debut for Swansea at the age of 18 and played on the wing in the team that won the WRU Schweppes Cup Final in 1978. After missing two seasons through injury he returned to play for both Swansea and Wales B against Australia in 1981. At the end of that season, over Easter 1982, he was a member of the Swansea XV that defeated the Barbarians and, 24 hours later, became a Baa-Baa himself as a 79th minute replacement in the victory over Newport. In 1986 he played for Penarth against the Barbarians and had the honour of scoring the home club's final try in the last fixture between the two sides. In the autumn of 1982 Huw Rees played at centre for Swansea when they beat New Zealand Maori. He also played in Australia for Western Suburbs and Manly.
