Harold Elgan Rees
Harold Elgan Rees was born in Clydach on 5 January 1954 and educated at Cwmtawe Grammar School and Borough Road College where he qualified as a teacher. He played club rugby on the wing for Neath, was captain between 1982 and 1985, and later became chairman. In 1977 Elgan Rees was selected for the British Isles tour of New Zealand and Fiji while still uncapped by Wales. He scored seven tries in 12 appearances, including one test. By the time he toured again with the British Isles to South Africa in 1980 (three tries in six games) he had gained the first of his 13 caps for Wales, for whom he scored six tries. He was also a prolific try scorer for the Barbarians with 17 in 14 appearances, including four against Penarth in 1978 and three against them in 1983.
