Michael Anthony Rayer

Michael Anthony Rayer was born in Llandaff, Cardiff,on 21 July 1965. He played for Llandaff Youth and Llandaff North before joining Cardiff where he became one of the Arms Park club's great favourites. Between 1985 and 2001 he played 369 games and scored 1440 points, including 93 tries. He was vice-captain in 1999, a year after he returned to Cardiff after two seasons with Bedford. He gained the first of his 21 caps for Wales during the 1991 Rugby World Cup, mainly at full-back, though he scored two of his four international tries as a replacement wing against Scotland in 1994. He worked as a sales representative but after his playing days became a successful coach with Cardiff and Bedford Blues. Mike Rayer also coached the Barbarians against Blackheath in 2009. As well as playing for the Barbarians against Australia in 1992 he was on the replacements' bench against New Zealand in 1993.
