Stefanus Johannes Rautenbach, known as Faan, was born in Bethlehem, South Africa, on 22 February 1976 and educated at Kroonstad High School. He played at prop for the Griffons, Golden Lions and Western Province and between 2002 and 2004 gained 14 caps for South Africa.
