Samuel Victor Perry

Samuel Victor Perry was born on 16 July 1918 and won two Blues playing at lock for Cambridge University in 1946 and 1947. He was originally invited to make his Barbarians' debut in the Mobbs Match on 6 March 1947, only for the game to be postponed through frost. A month later he wore the black-and-white shirt twice on the Easter Tour against Penarth and Swansea and then played in the Club's first-ever game against an international touring side, Australia, in January 1948. He also won seven caps for England in 1947 and 1948 before concentrating on a distinguished medical career that included his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society and,as Professor S. V. Perry, a worldwide reputation as a muscle research biochemist. Sam Perry died on 17 December 2009 at the age of 91.
