Michael James Owen
Michael James Owen was born in Pontypridd on 7 November 1980 and educated at Bryncelynnog Comprehensive School in Beddau and the University of Glamorgan. He played at lock and, primarily, number 8 for Pontypridd and was a member of the team that won the Welsh Challenge Cup in 2002. He later played for Celtic Warriors, Newport Gwent Dragons and Saracens. His 41 caps for Wales between 2002 and 2007 included the captaincy in six tests, including the Grand Slam side of 2005. He was also the 1000th player to be selected for Wales. In 2005 he toured New Zealand with the British Isles, played in six matches, and was captain against Southland. He was also captain when the Lions played Argentina at the Millennium Stadium prior to departure. Michael Owen was a replacement in the Barbarians team that beat South Africa at Twickenham in 2007.
