Andrew Douglas Nicol

Andrew Douglas Nicol was born in Dundee on 12 March 1971 and educated at Dundee High School and Dundee Institute. He played at scrum-half for Dundee HSFP before joining Bath and was captain of the West Country club when they won the European Cup in 1998. He returned north of the Border to captain Glasgow in 1999. Between 1992 and 2001 he gained 23 caps for Scotland, scored two test tries, and captained the side in 1997 and 2001. In 1993 he joined the British Isles' tour of New Zealand as a replacement and came off the bench in the 77th minute for his one appearance against Taranaki. History almost repeated itself eight years later when he joined the Lions for their final fixture of 2001 in Australia - but was an unused bench replacement for the third test. Andy Nicol later combined management roles with Glasgow and a broadcasting career.
