William Albert Mulcahy

William Albert Mulcahy was born in Limerick on 7 January 1935 and educated at St Munchins College, Limerick, and University College, Dublin where he qualified as a doctor. He played at lock for UCD, Bective Rangers and Bohemians. Between 1958 and 1965 he cptained Ireland in 11 of his 35 internationals. He also played for Scotland & Ireland against England & Wales at Twickenham in 1959 and four times for Leinster against international touring teams - Australia in 1957 and as captain in 1967, South Africa in 1961 and New Zealand in 1964. Bill Mulcahy twice toured with the British Isles - to Australasia in 1959 and South Africa in 1962 - making a total of 32 appearances, including six tests, and scoring three tries. He also captained the Lions in three provincial matches in 1962.
