William George Derek Morgan

William George Derek Morgan was born in Maesycwmmer on 30 November 1936 and educated at Lewis School, Pengam, and Durham University. He played for Welsh Secondary Schools at under-19 level but his dual qualifications allowed him to later gain nine caps at number 8 for England in 1960 and 1961. A qualified dentist, he continued to play club rugby in Wales for Newbridge, as well as Percy Park and Medicals in the north-east of England. Derek Morgan scored one of the two tries when the Barbarians defeated South Africa 6-nil in 1961. He was manager of England's tour to New Zealand in 1985 and was president of the RFU in 2002/03.
