Haydn John Morgan
Haydn John Morgan was born in Oakdale on 30 July 1936 and educated at Newbridge Grammar School before national service in the Army where he was a paratrooper. He later worked in the motor industry and emigrated to South Africa. A dynamic open-side wing-forward for the Abertillery club whom he captained in 1959/60 and 1964/65, he gained 27 caps for Wales between 1958 and 1966. He twice toured with the British Isles - to Australasia and Canada in 1959 (20 games, including two tests and four tries) and South Africa in 1962 (14 games, including two tests and four tries). Haydn Morgan's 14 appearances for the Barbarians included the tour to South Africa in 1958 and as try-scorer in the victory over South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park in 1961.
