Brinley Victor Meredith

Brinley Victor Meredith was born in Cwmbran on 21 November 1930 and educated at West Monmouth Grammar School and St Luke's College, Exeter, where he qualified as a teacher. He played for Welsh Secondary Schools in 1949 and on National Service for Devonport Services and the Royal Navy. At club level he played for London Welsh before joining Newport where he was captain in 1958/59 and 1961/62. He also played for South-West Counties against New Zealand in 1953 and was a member of the Newport XV that beat Australia in 1957. His 34 caps between 1954 and 1962, including four as captain, made him Wales' most-capped hooker. Bryn Meredith toured with the British Isles on three occasions - to South Africa in 1955 and 1962 and Australasia in 1959. In all he played in 41 matches for the Lions, including eight tests. He captained the Barbarians against Leicester in 1959.
