Alastair Ferguson McHarg

Alastair Ferguson McHarg was born in Irvine on 17 June 1944 and educated at Irvine Royal Academy. He played at lock for West of Scotland and London Scottish where he was also club captain. In 1967 and 1973 he represented a Scottish Districts XV against New Zealand and in 1982 the Anglo-Scots against Fiji. His 44 caps for Scotland between 1968 and 1979 set a new record for a Scotland lock. He also played in 'non-cap' matches against Argentina in 1969 and 1973 and Tonga in 1974 and toured with Scotland to Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.
