Reginald William David Marques

Reginald William David Marques was born in Hertford on 9 December 1932. A lock forward and lineout specialist, he won four Blues at Cambridge and captained his home club, Harlequins, in 1959-60. He won the first of his 23 caps for England in 1956 and played 19 games, including two tests, for the 1959 British Isles team in Australasia and Canada. His 11 games for the Barbarians included the pioneering tours to Canada in 1957 and South Africa the following summer and he was also a member of the side that beat Australia at Cardiff Arms Park in 1958. He captained the Barbarians twice - against Western Transvaal and in his final game for the Club, the Mobbs Memorial Match of 1960. David Marques died on 29 September 2010, aged 77.
