Gwilym Thomas Mainwaring

Gwilym Thomas Mainwaring, known as Billy, was born in Port Talbot on 24 January 1941 and educated at the Eastern School in Taibach. He was a steelworker and played at lock for the Taibach club. He joined Aberavon where he was captain for two seasons from 1969 to 1971. He also played for the combined Neath & Aberavon XV against Australia in 1966, South Africa in 1969 (as captain) and New Zealand in 1973. In 1967 and 1968 he played in six internationals for Wales and also toured Argentina in 1968 when he played in the two 'non-cap' tests against the Pumas.
