Donald Barry Llewelyn

Donald Barry Llewelyn was born in Manchester on 1 June 1948 and educated at Llanelli Grammar School and Loughborough College where he qualified as a teacher. He later owned and managed a sports' equipment shop in Tenby. Barry Llewelyn was originally a number 8 but converted to prop where he became renowned for his mobility and ball-carrying. After Loughborough he played for Newport and Llanelli where he was a member of the side that beat the All Blacks in 1972. His eight appearances for the Barbarians included the matches against South Africa, Scotland and Fiji in 1970 and he was an original selection for the match against New Zealand in 1973 but was forced to withdraw because of injury. Unusually, all his 13 caps for Wales were before his 25th birthday.
