Arthur John Llewellyn Lewis

Arthur John Llewellyn Lewis was born in Crumlin on 26 September 1941 and educated at the technical colleges of Abertillery and Cross Keys. He worked as an electrician. He played at centre for Ebbw Vale and for a succession of representative teams against international touring sides - Abertillery & Ebbw Vale against Australia in 1966, Monmouthshire against New Zealand in 1967, and Gwent against South Africa in 1969. In March 1970 he played for Wales B against France B in Paris and a month later won the first of 11 full caps for Wales. He captained Wales three times in his final international season in 1973. In 1971 he toured Australia & New Zealand with the British Isles, scoring two tries in 11 appearances. In 1972 he played for England & Wales against Scotland & Ireland at Murrayfield. Arthur Lewis captained the Barbarians against Swansea in 1971 and Llanelli in 1972.
