Donal Lenihan gained 52 caps for Ireland between 1981 and 1992 and was captain in 19 internationals. In 1983 he joined the British Isles in New Zealand as a replacement and played in two provincial fixtures. Six years later he again toured, this time as an original selection, and played four games in Australia and was captain against Queensland B, Australian Capital Territory, and NSW Country XV.
