William Keri Jones

William Keri Jones was born in Neath on 13 January 1945 and educated at Ystalyfera Grammar School and Cardiff College of Education where he qualified as a teacher. He ran for Wales in the sprints at the 1966 Commonwealth Games in Jamaica. His speed was put to good use on the wing, initially with Neath and then at Cardiff where he scored 32 tries in 60 matches between 1965 and 1968. He also scored two tries in five matches for Wales in the 1967/68 season. At the end of that season he toured South Africa with the British Isles and played in six matches. His two appearances for the Barbarians included two tries on his debut against Wasps followed by an invitation to play against New Zealand at Twickenham in 1967. In 1968 Keri Jones signed professional forms with Wigan RLFC and in 1970 he played two tests for Great Britain against France and New Zealand.
