Brian James Jones
Brian James Jones was born in Cwmcarn on 10 May 1935 and educated at Pontywaun Grammar School and St Luke's College, Exeter. He served in the Royal Navy and became a marketing director. He played at centre for Cross Keys and Tredegar but was mainly with the Newport club where he was captain from 1959 to 1961, coach from 1967 to 1969, and later its chairman. He gained two caps for Wales in 1960. Brian Jones' nine games for the Barbarians included the victory over South Africa in 1961 and the pioneering tour to South Africa in 1958 where he scored two tries in the match against Transvaal at Ellis Park.
