Patrick Stephen Johns was born in Portadown on 19 February 1968 and educated at the Royal School, Dungannon, and the universities of Dublin and Newcastle before qualifying as a dentist. He played for Dungannon and Saracens. Between 1990 and 2000 Paddy Johns played at lock and number 8 in 59 internationals for Ireland.
