Charles Ronald Jacobs

Charles Ronald Jacobs was born in Cambridgeshire on 28 October 1928. He played 470 games at prop for Northampton and gained 29 caps for England between 1956 and 1964. He was president of the Rugby Football Union in 1983-84. A long-serving Barbarian, his 25 games for the Club between 1953 and 1965 places him joint second with D. P. Rogers behind A. J. F. O'Reilly [q.v.] in the all-time appearances chart. He played agsint New Zealand in 1954 and Australia in 1958 and was Barbarian captain in the historic match against Canada in Gosforth in 1962. He also toured with the Club to Canada in 1957 and South Africa in 1958. He was captain against Swansea in 1958 and Newport in 1963. From 1965 to 1969 he served on the Club committee. Ron Jacobs died on 10 November 2002, aged 74.
