Terence David Holmes

Terence David Holmes was born in Cardiff on 10 March 1957 and educated at Bishop Hannon School. He first played at scrum-half for Cardiff at the age of 17 years 6 months and went on to score 123 tries in 193 games over the course of 10 seasons. He was club captain in 1984/85. He succeeded Gareth Edwards as Wales' scrum-half in 1978 and played in 25 internationals, including five games as captain in 1985. Injuries blighted his two tours with the British Isles to South Africa in 1980, when he scored three tries in his four appearances, and New Zealand in 1983 when he was injured in the first test. Terry Holmes joined Bradford Northern in November 1985 only to suffer further injuries and he retired from playing two years later. He subsequently became a successful coach back at the Cardiff club, guiding them to the first European Cup Final in January 1996.
