Michael Louis Hipwell
Michael Louis Hipwell was born in Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, on 15 July 1940 and educated at Terenure College. He worked as an army pilot and played in the back row for Terenure College and at provincial level for Leinster. He twice played against touring Wallabies' sides to Ireland - for Leinster in 1967 and the Combined Irish Provinces in the following year. Between 1962 and 1972 he gained 12 caps for Ireland. In 1971 he toured Australia and New Zealand with the British Isles and played in six matches before an injury in the match against Canterbury ended his tour.
