Robert Hiller

Robert Hiller was born in Woking on 14 October 1942 and educated at Bec Grammar School, Birmingham University, and Oxford University where he gained a Blue in 1965. Originally a teacher, he later worked for a firm manufacturing visual aids. He played at full-back for Harlequins and for London Counties against Australia in 1966 and on the wing against South Africa. He also played for a composite Midlands & Home Counties XV against New Zealand at Leicester in 1967. In September 1967 he toured Canada with an England XV before gaining the first of 19 full caps between 1968 and 1972. He scored 138 points, a new record at the time, and captained England in seven internationals. Bob Hiller was also a double Lion, touring with the British Isles to South Africa in 1968 and Australia and New Zealand in 1971, making a total of 19 appearances and scoring 214 points. In 1969 he played for Oxford University Past & Present against the Barbarians and kicked two conversions.
