Reginald Higgins

Reginald Higgins was born in Widnes on 11 July 1930 and educated at Wade Deacon School and Leeds University. He played at wing-forward for the Universities Athletic Union, the Army and at club level for Liverpool. He played in the Inter-Services' tournament and in 1953 for Combined Services against New Zealand. He also played for North-Western Counties against the same All Blacks' touring team. He worked as a commercial representative in the road haulage business. Between 1954 and 1959 he played in 13 internationals for England and scored two tries. On the 1955 British Isles' tour of South Africa he played in nine games before a serious knee injury in the first test sidelined him for over a year. He captained the Barbarians against Newport in 1955. Reg Higgins died on 29 December 1979, aged 49.
