Alfred John Herbert

Alfred John Herbert was born on 1 January 1933 and educated at Marling School, Stroud, and Cambridge University, where he won three Blues, 1954 to 1956, and was captain in his third Varsity Match. John Herbert played at wing-forward for Wasps where he was club captain in 1958/59. Having trained as a teacher he later worked in the fibres division of ICI. He toured extensively with the Combined Universities to California, Argentina and Kenya and in 1958 and 1959 gained six caps for England.
