Bruce Hamilton Hay

Bruce Hamilton Hay was born in Edinburgh on 23 May 1950 and educated at Liberton High School. He was employed initially by the National Coal Board as an electrician and later developed a commercial chemicals business. He played club rugby for Boroughmuir and was captain in 1979/80 and 1984/85. He represented Glasgow & Edinburgh against New Zealand in 1972 and Edinburgh against Australia in 1975 and New Zealand in 1979. In 23 internationals for Scotland - five at full-back and 18 on the wing - between 1975 and 1981 he scored three tries. In 1980 he played for Scotland & Ireland against England & Wales. He twice toured with the British Isles - to New Zealand in 1977 when he scored five tries in 11 appearances and South Africa in 1980 when he captained the team in two provincial matches and scored two tries in 11 appearances, including three tests. He later coached Edinburgh, Scotland B and Scotland under-19. Bruce Hay died on 1 October 2007, aged 57.
