George William Hastings

George William Hastings was born in Dursley on 7 November 1924 and educated at Cheltenham Grammar School. He played at prop for the local Old Patesians club and Cheltenham before he joined Gloucester. He played for Western Counties against New Zealand in 1953 and Australia in 1957. Between 1955 and 1958 he played in 13 internationals for England and scored 11 points, including a conversion and two penalty goals. He was a draughtsman and, later, a farmer in Gloucestershire. George Hastings belongs to a select band of players who made 20 appearances for the Barbarians. He also captained the Club against Swansea in 1957.
