Alexander James Hastie

Alexander James Hastie, born 29 July 1935, played 239 games at scrum-half for Melrose and won 18 caps for Scotland between 1961 and 1968. Famed for his half-back partnership for club and country with David Chisholm [qv], they also appeared together for the Barbarians when they defeated Cardiff 12-8 in a celebration match to open floodlights at Cardiff Arms Park in October 1964. Hastie went on two Easter tours as a Barbarian and also played for the Club against Llanelli, again alongside Chisholm, in another celebration match in 1965. He died on 7 June 2010, aged 74.
