Gareth Lloyd Evans

Gareth Lloyd Evans was born in Newport on 2 November 1952 and educated at Newport High School. He was a finance representative and played at centre and wing for Cross Keys and Newport where he was club captain in 1979/80 and later became coach. He also played for Newport against Australia in 1976. He played three times for Wales in 1977 and 1978 and toured Australia with the national squad in 1978. In 1977 he toured New Zealand with the British Isles and scored six tries in 18 appearances, including three tests. This was followed by an appearance for the Lions against the Barbarians in the Queen's Silver Jubilee Match at Twickenham.
