Craig William Dowd was born in Auckland on 26 October 1969 and educated at Liston College before working as a builder. He played at prop for Auckland and the Blues before joining London Wasps. He played 67 times for New Zealand between 1993 and 2000, including 60 tests, making him the country's most-capped prop.
