John Anthony Devereux

John Anthony Devereux was born in Pontycymer on 30 March 1966 and educated at Ynysawdre Comprehensive School and UWIC. He played at centre for Bridgend, Sale and Maesteg. Between 1986 and 1989 he scored five tries in 21 internationals for Wales, including three in the 1987 Rugby World Cup. In 1986 he played for the British Lions against the Rest of the World in the IRB Centenary Match at Cardiff Arms Park. Three years later he toured Australia with the British Isles and made five appearances including the final fixture against an ANZAC XV. John Devereux joined Widnes Rugby League club in 1989 and won caps for Wales and in 1992 toured Australia and New Zealand with Great Britain.
