David Maldwyn Davies

David Maldwyn Davies was born in Penygraig on 2 May 1925 and after working as a coal-miner in the Rhondda moved to the West Country, joined the police force, and played club rugby for Somerset Police. First capped at hooker for Wales in 1950, he went on to be part of the team that beat New Zealand in December 1953 and played the last of his 17 internationals against England a month later. In 1950 he was in the British Isles squad that toured Australasia and made 14 appearances, including two tests against New Zealand and one against Australia. His five games for the Barbarians included the match against South Africa in 1952. Dai Davies died on 25 September 2003, aged 78.
